Ruth Bible Study: Lesson 3;Review

Ruth's Photo Album

Photographs. We all have them. We all cherish them. I keep mine in shoeboxes. (No don't e-mail me about photo albums; I already bought a year's supply and maybe one day I will showcase them.)  I do have one old album. It belonged to my Grandmother. Its leaves are old and fragile, and it contains aged photos of family members, shadows of  people who once lived, laughed, and loved. Pictures remind us of a person. They aren't the actual person, but vestiges of them--reminders of their likeness.

There are photo albums in the Bible--you'll find one in the story of Ruth!  What, you didn't see it?  Actually the book of Ruth itself is a photo album in which  we see a pictures of Christ -- his likeness -- a shadow of the One who would come to redeem us!

-Ruth washed and perfumed herself in preparation to meet her Redeemer

-We are washed in his bloodand we are to be a sweet fragrant offering for him.

-Ruth went over and uncovered his feet and lay down. When he woke up and asked who she was Ruth replied, "I am your servant, Ruth. Spread your covering over me."

-We lay prostrate at the Savior's nail pierced feet, coming to him for redemption.

When we do he covers us with his blood.

-Ruth said to Boaz...I am your servant, Ruth.

-We are servants of our Redeemer.

-Boaz said to Ruth:  "Don't be afraid. I will do for you all you ask."

-Our Redeemer says to us "It is I...don't be afraid." And he does above and beyond what we could think to ask for.

<flash>

-Boaz said "Don't let it be known that a woman came to the threshing floor."

-Our Redeemer says, "Anyone who comes I will in no ways cast out."

-Boaz went to the city gates and he interceded on behalf of Ruth He bought and paid for her redemption.

-Our Savior left heaven. He bought and paid for our redemption. Daily he intercedes in our behalf before the throne of God.

-In order for Boaz to marry Ruth he had to overcome obstacles in his way

-Jesus overcame all obstacles to be our Redeemer.

<flash>

-Ruth was a foreigner, yet Boaz accepted her.

-We were lost but Jesus found us and adopted us into his family. There are no racial barriers where Jesus is concerned.

-Boaz and Ruth were soon blessed with a child. That child would redeem Naomi from her status as the poor widow left alone.

-Later in that same line another Child would be born. This Child would come to redeem as many as would received him.

On a rainy day its fun to get out the old photographs and go through them with your children. Talking about the faces, remembering the events. Next time why not take out Ruth's photo album? Talk about it with your children. Remember the events. And share with them these pictures of Jesus!
